Development of small high-voltage AC power supply for a dielectric barrier discharge plasma actuator

A dielectric-barrier discharge plasma actuator (DBDPA) is a promising flow control device that can prevent separation around an airfoil using electrical discharges. Miniaturizing the DBDPA power supply remains crucial technological challenge because its size and weight determine performance of fluid devices equipped with this type actuator. In study, we propose compact high-voltage AC for intended installation on small airplanes, including unmanned aerial vehicles. The supply, which consists board, main DC/AC converter ?110 g in weight. It drive 300-mm long without any substantial voltage drop. consumption standby below 1 W, maximum during burst mode at ratio 5% 24 W. uses lithium-ion battery capacity 1800 mA h, allows continuous operation ?1.5 h. An experiment was conducted wind tunnel model whose cross-section corresponds to from commercial glider airplane. Experimental results reveal surface pressure modified by operation, clearly demonstrating effectiveness developed operating as device. proposed be established benchmark further miniaturize optimize supplies.
